At the “Adler Speed Lab” test circuit in Ottaviano, Paolo Scudieri, President of ANFIA, and Vincenzo De Luca, Governor of the Campania Region, officially presented Borgo 4.0—a visionary project to create a high-tech platform for sustainable and safe mobility in Lioni (Avellino).
With direct backing from the Campania Region and €50 million in funding, Borgo 4.0 aims to integrate R&D, innovation, and real-world testing of advanced technologies for autonomous and connected driving. The project will transform Lioni into a pioneering ecosystem where the car of the future—connected, digital, and sustainable—will take shape.
The initiative is led by ANFIA Automotive, with participation from 54 leading automotive companies, 3 public research centers, 5 Campanian universities, and the National Research Council (CNR).
Scudieri described Borgo 4.0 as “a technological and industrial challenge that brings the most advanced mobility innovations to Lioni and the surrounding Irpinia region.” The project's ambition is not only technological advancement but also regional revitalization—particularly in areas deeply affected by the 1980 earthquake.
The town will be equipped with 5G connectivity and cutting-edge infrastructure needed to test self-driving vehicles, including V2I and V2X systems that allow vehicles to communicate with their environment in real time.
Borgo 4.0 is designed to position Italy—and its supply chain—as a leader in smart mobility, attracting new investments and enabling the Italian components industry to play a central role at both national and global levels.
